7.2 Regulation 33 Visits

OUTCOME STATEMENT

The person carrying on the home monitors the welfare of the children in the home.  The care of children Accommodated in the home is monitored and continually adapted in the light of information about how it is operating.


'Regulation 33 Visits' are visits made to the home under Regulation 33 of the Children's Homes Regulations, which require that an independent person visit on a monthly basis to report on the running of the home e.g. having checked certain records and interviews with children.

These visits should normally be undertaken on an unannounced basis but may be announced if the visitor wishes to meet the Registered Manager or other people.

In the light of the information obtained, the visitor must write a report and make recommendations about the quality care provided in the home.  The report is forwarded to the Principal Officer and the Home's Manager.  Copies should also be circulated to relevant senior managers; who will arrange for copies to be forwarded to the Regulatory Authority as required.

Registered Managers should ensure that the current Regulation 33 report is made available for staff to read and a copy is on display in the home.

The person undertaking the Regulation 33 visit will record his/her findings, this record will include:

  • Any comments made by the children and staff in the home.
  • The Daily Log
  • Complaints made by children or others on their behalf
  • Sanctions imposed upon children
  • Physical Interventions used upon children
  • Absences of children
  • Serious Incidents occurring in the home
  • Any other relevant records
  • The physical condition of the home

In the light of the information obtained, the person must write a report and make recommendations about the quality care provided in the home.
